Give Me Love by Ed Sheeran
http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/edsheeran/givemelove.html
Ed Sheeran's song is the one which i have had the pleasure to launch this blog with.
I personally love this artist's ability to combine emotion and heartfelt poetry in his songs.. I welcome all music, lyrics and poetry fans to "give love" to my blog..
To me, this song simply translates as a song about facing the difficulties of separation from a lover. The 1st verse expresses the pain the singer faces in letting go, and in consoling his pain he tried to seek comfort in the arms of someone else hoping to get the same passion which he experienced in the previous relationship.."give me love like her"
Furthermore he expressed his feeling of loneliness..which i find interesting because he still feels lonely even though he is with someone else..<"cause lately I've been waking up alone">
these feelings he finds difficult to overcome... even though he had promised to let go...<"told you i'd let them go">...(sounds like someone is addicted)...
Under the influence of alcohol he is tempted to call her...i guess that's when everyone lets the gates of restrained thought and emotions loose...<" maybe tonight i'll call you, when my blood turns into alcohol">...(can you say drunk dialing)...
chorus
he pleads with her to give him more time before
he is completely over her..and probably breaking apart may lead to them finding each other again...<"we'll play hide and seek...and turn this around">
But all he really wants is to experience the love again..
Verse 2
In the second verse he reveals that, the separation has actually made him want her more and even though a lot of time has passed..his feeling still remain the same...but he still considers the option of letting go..(so far we can see its not so easy for him)..
The song goes to the chorus again then to a beautiful native american like chant for the bridge which i personally think was so creatively placed to add flavor to the song....
For those of you who have the album and have listened to this song...then u must have found the hidden track called "The Parting Glass" ...if u haven't heard it then next time u listen to the song drink a parting glass of patience and don't jump to the next track before you hear it..
Its not exactly clear to me why Ed Sheeran added this track after this song but i perceived it to be a goodbye song. This song was originally a poem by an Irish Poet named Thomas Moore (1779 - 1852)
In a nutshell, the poet urges his companions to drink one last glass before they part for they may never meet again...in relation to "Give Me Love" the line <"a man may court a pretty girl and perhaps be welcomed again"> is the line which familiarizes itself the most to the song.
